18. NIKE Poster Cards Type 1 290861 - 290866

The group 290861 - 290866 includes Oaklands Lester Hayes, Manut Boll, the Padres Tony Gwynn,  Mets Gary Carter, the Angels Wally Joyner and a collage of NBA'ers in "Men at Work"

290861   The Judge    1985/86

Oaklands Lester Hayes

290862         Manute Bol growth chart  1985/86

Maybe the strangest of the NIKE posters , I guess this poster was meant to hang up and measure your kids height like old timers used to do in their kitchen doorway. The poster card itself is so large (5 x 14") that had to be folded over and couldn't be put on my scanner so I had to take a photo.

290863 Hitting Machine    1986

The Padres hitting machine Tony Gwynn. Although this poster has been auctioned off as a 1990 poster (ref below)  we know that is incorrect . While it was not on the the 1985 order form and was on 1990 order form, its position before 290867 a known 1986 poster indicates that it must be an 1986 issue.

290864  Gary Carter  1986

Carter was a member of the 1986 World Champion Mets. Carter made a major contribution to the Mets' World Series championship in 1986. Note the black out on the back reveals that the Nike number was changed before printing. All examples  we have seen of 290864 are like this.

290865 Wally World  1986

Taking cue from the National Lampoons "Vacation movie" Wally Joiner is described as Wally World. Note the info on the back reveals that the Nike number was changed before printing. All examples  we have seen are like this. We conclude this was issued in  Joyners rookie season 1986.

290866 Men at Work        1986

A collage of NBA'ers Barkley, Malone, Moncrief, Robertson and Buck Williams. Note the info on the back reveals that the Nike number was changed before printing. All examples  we have seen are like this. The following link shows 1986 video of Nike men at work commercial showing many of these poster shots.

  1. For what it's worth, the Padres uniform contained the RAK arm patch which is shown on Tony's poster only during the 85 & 86 seasons.
